The best time to visit Ponmudi is between September and May when the weather is pleasant and the monsoon season has passed. To get there, one can take a bus or drive from the nearby city of Trivandrum. There are also a number of homestays and resorts available for accommodation, offering a comfortable and serene stay amidst the natural beauty of the hill station. One of the main attractions of Ponmudi is its rich avifauna. The hill station is home to a number of bird species, making it a popular spot for bird watching. Some of the common species found here include the Malabar whistling thrush, the Nilgiri wood pigeon, and the Indian swiftlet.

Trekking is another popular activity in Ponmudi, with a variety of trails that take you through the lush green forests, tea derivatives, and grasslands. One of the most famous trekking trails is the Agasthyarkoodam Trek, which takes you to the peak of Agasthyarkoodam, the highest peak in the area. This trek offers breathtaking views of the Western Ghats and is a must-do for adventure seekers. Fishing is another popular activity in Ponmudi, with a number of freshwater streams and rivers offering the perfect spot for anglers. The Meenmutty waterfalls, which are located 3 km away from the main town, are a popular spot for fishing. The best time to visit Ponmudi is between September and May. During this time, the weather is pleasant, with cool temperatures and clear skies, making it ideal for outdoor activities like trekking and bird watching. The monsoon season has also passed, so the trails and roads are clear and accessible.
Monsoons in India are from June to September, during this period Ponmudi would be covered with mist and heavy rain which make the trails slippery and roads blocked. Also during the monsoon season, the waterfalls are in full flow and can be very beautiful but also the access to them can be difficult.
Winter months between December to February are also pleasant but the temperature may drop to 10°C and it may get chilly in the evenings, so it's recommended to pack warm clothing if you're planning to visit during this time.
In summary, September to May is the best time to visit Ponmudi for the best weather conditions, clear roads and trails, and optimal bird-watching and trekking opportunities.
